Golden State Valkyries (+8.0) vs. New York Liberty (-110) | Bovada |
Golden State Valkyries (+8.0) vs. New York Liberty (-110)
The Valkyries (7-6) are rolling with five wins in their last six games after beating Connecticut 87-63 at home on Sunday night. Kayla Thornton continued to have the hot hand with 21 points, her third game in her last six with 20 or more points. The Golden State defense was stifling, holding Connecticut to 30.3% from the field, which was needed as Golden State only 35.9% themselves. However, they had 19 offensive rebounds, which got the Valkyries plenty of second chances.
Kayla Thornton stays setting the tone.@KBT_5Blessed dropped a game-high 21 points, pulled down 8 boards, and stayed perfect at the line (7-7) in another statement win at Ballhalla.#VotetheValks → https://t.co/WZuW5XvBec pic.twitter.com/0pyX1fTssu

Meanwhile, the Liberty (10-3) have lost three of their last four since winning their first nine games of the season. They recently fell 89-79 to Seattle as Breanna Stewart had 18 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. However, the Liberty were missing Sabrina Ionescu due to a neck injury.
Jonquel Jones suffered a right ankle sprain at 8:35 in the second quarter of Thursday night’s game against Phoenix. Jones previously sprained her right ankle on Thursday, June 5 against Washington.

It was also announced that Jonquel Jones will miss 4–6 weeks because of an ailing ankle. New York is still second in the league in defensive rating, but they’ve allowed 81 points or more in each of their last four games. They had done that just once heading into this four-game period.
It should be noted that both of these teams are missing players because of the EuroBasket Women’s tournament. Golden State is without Cecilia Zandalasini (Italy), Janelle Salaun (France), Illiana Rupert (France), Julie Vanloo (Belgium), and Juste Jocyte (Lithuania). On the other side, New York have missed Leonie Fiebich (Germany) and Raquel Carrera (Spain). The tournament ends on June 29, so both teams will have their international players back next week.
I can’t back a Golden State win at +305, as Ionescu is expected to be back tonight. All it takes is the hot-shooting guard and Stewart to have big games, and the Liberty run away with it. But I’m more confident in the Valkyries covering 7.5 points at home as the underdogs with odds of -105! Jones being injured is a considerable loss for New York’s defense, as she is third in rebounds (9.6) and tenth in blocks (1.1).
New York has hit a rough patch, and the Valkyries are playing inspired basketball, especially at home where they are 5-2 straight up (SU) and 6-1 against the spread (ATS). Let’s take the Valkyries at +8.0 with odds of -110 at Bovada!
