Akron QB Ben Finley has been one of the few bright spots in a rough year for Akron, and Tuesday night sets up as another chance for the junior quarterback to flash his arm.

Finley has racked up 2,299 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season while consistently airing it out in a pass-heavy offense. He’s hit the over on 1.5 passing touchdowns in seven of his last eight outings, including three games with three scores through the air.

Bowling Green’s defense doesn’t present much resistance either. The Falcons are middle of the pack nationally against the pass, allowing 211.4 yards per game, which ranks 51st in the FBS.

They’ve struggled to create pressure or limit big plays consistently, opening the door for Finley to capitalize. Given his track record and the matchup, backing the over 1.5 passing touchdowns at -115 looks like the right side. Finley should be able to find the end zone at least twice.

Total Passing Yards: Jalen Macon (NIU) Under 104.5 (-115)

Jalen Macon gets the nod for Northern Illinois again, but expectations should be tempered heading into this matchup. Macon is a run-first quarterback with limited passing reps, and it showed in his lone start this season. He attempted just four passes against UMass, completing three for 73 yards in a game heavily tilted toward the ground game.

Now he faces a much stiffer test against Western Michigan. The Broncos rank seventh in the nation in passing defense, allowing just 161.1 yards per game through the air. That stingy secondary, paired with Macon’s low volume as a passer, makes it hard to envision him breaking out through the air.

Given his dual-threat profile and the matchup, it’s reasonable to expect a game plan that leans heavily on the run once again. With a low passing ceiling and an efficient opposing defense, taking the under 104.5 passing yards at -115 looks like a sharp bet.
