Scheffler (+550) is the leading betting favorite to win The Open at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland! At +550, Scheffler enjoys a 15.4% implied probability to win, which isn’t as strong as in other tournaments this year. However, the 29-year-old Texas native is out in front, according to the best golf betting sites.
Hometown favorite Rory McIlroy has the second-best Open Championship winner odds at +700. The 2025 Masters champion waited a long time to win the fifth major title of his career, and now he can win his second of the year on home soil. Currently, oddsmakers afford McIlroy a 12.5% implied probability to get it done.
LIV Golf’s Jon Rahm (+1000) rounds on the top three favorites at Bovada. Rahm hasn’t been in the spotlight much of late but was in solid form in the first three majors and playing well on the LIV Tour. Rahm enters the tournament with a 9.1% implied chance.

The Open Championship Favorites in 2025
Prior to revealing my best Open Championship picks, let’s analyze the top betting favorites to win at Royal Portrush:
Scottie Scheffler (+550)
In 2024, Scheffler entered the Open Championship as a +550 favorite and once again has the same odds to win this year. He failed to get into striking distance of Xander Schauffele at Royal Troon and settled for a T7 finish at 1-under par.
In any event, Scheffler certainly deserves to be the betting favorite for this tournament. Currently ranked No. 1 in the world, Scheffler has collected 736.2 points, putting him well ahead in the OWGR rankings. He’s won 16 times on the PGA Tour, three of which came in 2025.

Scheffler’s biggest win was in the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in May. He also grabbed victories in the Memorial Tournament and CJ Cup at Byron Nelson. This follows an incredible year for Scheffler, which saw him win seven tournaments, including the Masters!
Note that Scheffler leads the PGA Tour in SG: Total, SG: Off the Tee, SG: Tee to Green, and SG: Approach to Green! Those are the most important metrics for a winning golfer, and Scheffler beats everyone else on the PGA Tour. While his putting is 22nd, he remains well ahead of the average.
Additionally, Scheffler has finished in the Top 10 in 10 straight tournaments since T2 in the Houston Open in March. That stretch includes six Top 5 performances.
The odds look right on Scheffler, and I can’t complain if you want to include him for your 2025 British Open betting picks.
Rory McIlroy (+700)
McIlroy heads home following a strong showing in the Scottish Open. He was locked in with a 13-under par effort to finish two strokes behind winner Chris Gotterup.
It was a solid momentum boost for McIlroy, as the pressure ratchets up a notch playing in front of the home crowd at Royal Portrush. In 2019, McIlroy crashed hard in the Open with a +2 score through the first two rounds to miss the cut. McIlroy is back and reportedly has a different perspective this time around.
I believe he got a giant monkey off his back with his win at Augusta National. Pressure is always going to be there, but with a green jacket in his closet, I can see McIlroy entering Northern Ireland feeling more comfortable and confident than in 2019.
"I guess I wanted to go away somewhere and sit in my green jacket for a couple of weeks and no-one annoy me!" 🤣

McIlroy is having a strong season, as he has two wins and seven Top 10 finishes since February. Since a T19 effort at the US Open, McIlory captured T6 at the Travelers Championship and T2 last week in Scotland. The stats back up his solid form this year.
He is second, behind only Scheffler, in SG: Total. Also, McIlroy is fifth in SG: Off the Tee and fourth in SG: Putting. McIlroy’s putter has been the difference for him this year. He’s struggled with it over the past few years, but is finding his way on the dance floor in 2025.
Jon Rahm (+1000)
Consistency has been the name of the game for Rahm this season. The former world No. 1 in 2020 has been in solid form as he looks to turn that into a win at Royal Portrush.
Rahm has finished in the Top 10 in 11 of 13 tournaments on the LIV and PGA Tour! He played all three majors, with a T7, T8, and T14 performances. In his latest PGA event, Rahm finished T7 in the US Open last month.
For all the terrific results from Rahm, including 2nd at LIV Andalucia this past week, the Spaniard hasn’t won in 2025. He’s been on the cusp several times, and I expect him to be in the mix again in the Open Championship. Also, Rahm had a strong performance at 11-under par at Royal Portrush in 2019.

The 30-year-old leads LIV Golf in greens in regulation with an impressive 74.07% success rate. Rahm is also second in birdies and third in scrambling. There isn’t much wrong with his performances this year.
The only thing missing is a tournament title, and I believe there’s a strong chance he can change that this weekend!
Best Longshots for The Open 2025

2025 British Open Prediction and Betting Pick
Scheffler is understandably the betting favorite to win the Open Championship! However, I think there is better value on the board to capture the Claret Jug. Rahm has quietly asserted himself as one of the best golfers in the world this year.
While he isn’t getting the most attention playing with LIV Golf, Rahm is consistently putting in solid scores after solid scores. This includes his work on the PGA Tour in the three major tournaments. He was within striking range and wasn’t intimidated about coming back to face his former peers.
It’s important to reach the greens in regulation at Royal Portrush, and Rahm has been doing an excellent job of it this season. Following a T7 finish in the US Open in June, expect him to return to the PGA Tour with momentum behind him at a course he’s played well at before.
At +1000 odds, I recommend betting on Rahm for your best British Open picks!
