As soon as it was revealed that Antetokounmpo and his agent were speaking to the Bucks about his future, social media lit up with potential trade destinations.

There is no shortage of suitors for “The Greek Freak”!.

It should be noted that, at this time of writing (December 4), Antetokounmpo suffered a calf strain, but the Bucks have ruled out an Achilles injury. He’ll be out 2-4 weeks.

Why Would Giannis Antetokounmpo Leave Milwaukee?

The Bucks drafted Antetokounmpo with the 15th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He started 23 games as a rookie, but it wasn’t until his fourth season that Antetokounmpo blossomed. Since 2018, Antetokounmpo has been in the top six of the NBA MVP voting every year and won the award in 2019 and 2020. The Greek superstar also led Milwaukee to an NBA title in 2021, when he was also named Finals MVP.

Since then, there hasn’t been much playoff success for the Bucks. They won their first-round series in 2022 against Chicago but haven’t won a series since. The Bucks also traded Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton away, and fired title-winning coach Mike Budenholzer.

They got Damian Lillard in the Holiday trade, and it hasn’t worked out on the court the way many thought it would. Lillard has since been traded back to Portland.

Antetokounmpo was frustrated after losing to the Pacers, getting into it with Bennedict Mathurin and the father of Indiana guard Tyrese Haliburton. But this frustration has been brewing for a while, although he has yet to request a trade as of December 4, 2025. Still, the news of Antetokounmpo and his agent talking to the Bucks about his future is the closest we’ve come to a trade request.

It might be best for both sides if Giannis leaves to go for another title. The Bucks would also get a massive haul for Antetokounmpo, unlike what Dallas got for Luka Dončić in the Lakers’ trade.

What Are the Odds of Giannis Antetokounmpo Being Traded?

OPTION ODDS
Yes -120
No -120

First, we should consider the odds of Antetokounmpo being traded at all. The bookies have given “Yes” and “No” equal odds of -120.

Based on everything we know, the “Yes” option should be favored, so I’ll take the value here. I’d expect something like -150 or lower, given the latest developments.

Antetokounmpo has had a great career in Milwaukee since he was drafted in 2013, winning two MVP awards and the franchise’s first title since 1971.

But the Bucks aren’t close to competing for a title, and don’t have the assets to make a big move. Therefore, I think both sides will see that they would be better off after a trade. They have until February 6, 2026, which is when the NBA trade deadline is. However, I think a trade will be done before then.

I also think the Bucks will do their best to help Antetokounmpo get to a team that can win sooner than later. So I’ll take “Yes” at -120 for my Giannis betting prediction.

The Favorites to Land Giannis

There is a list of five teams I would consider favorites, but I’ll examine just three. I’ll omit Miami and Brooklyn, as I think Antetokounmpo will want to go to a team with a title-winning chance. I don’t think Giannis puts the Heat and Nets over the top (certainly not the Nets).

San Antonio Spurs (+125)

The Spurs are the most intriguing team in the Giannis next team odds, simply because they would be looking to pair Antetokounmpo up with Victor Wembanyama. It would be like the real-life “Monstars” from Space Jam!

San Antonio also has a great mix of what it would take to make the deal happen. They would likely have to include Stephon Castle, the reigning Rookie of the Year, but even De’Aaron Fox might be discussed. Harrison Barnes would probably be in the deal as well, as the Spurs try to match Antetokounmpo’s $54 million in salary.

The Spurs also have a lot of draft-pick capital to play with, including first-round picks for 2026 (pick swap with Atlanta), and 2028-2032. They did have to give up some in the Fox trade. But they also have some incoming.

It would be worth it to pair Antetokounmpo with Wembanyama, and the two would be the dominant duo in the NBA! However, they’re not the only team on top in the Giannis next team odds.

New York Knicks (+125)

The Knicks are reportedly the team that Antetokounmpo wants to go to, but it’s a matter of whether they can make it happen in terms of draft picks. Karl-Anthony Towns would presumably go the other way, as he and Antetokounmpo basically have the same salary.

However, the Knicks don’t have much in the cupboard for draft picks. They traded five first-round picks to Brooklyn for Mikal Bridges in July 2024. Other teams would have to get involved to help the Knicks complete the trade. Why would they do that?

But in today’s NBA, if a superstar wants to make a specific trade happen, teams will usually try to accommodate them. A Giannis-Jalen Brunson duo, along with Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Josh Hart, would make the Knicks the surefire favorites in the Eastern Conference.

Houston Rockets (+250)

The Rockets are hanging around with Oklahoma City and Denver at the top of the NBA championship odds, and a trade for Antetokounmpo would definitely close the gap.

Houston could offer Alperen Şengün, the injured Fred VanVleet, and at least one first-round pick in 2027. The Rockets can get away with not offering that many picks if they’re offering Sengun, who is playing at an All-Star level this season. The Bucks could also kick the tires on getting Amen Thompson.

But would the Rockets do this? They’re one of the top three teams in the league, and pairing Antetokounmpo with Kevin Durant makes them an older team. However, with the Thunder looking to build a dynasty, the Rockets might feel pressure to try to make this happen now. I do think their Giannis next team odds are a tad overpriced, but will they pull the trigger?

The Contenders

Next in the Giannis next team odds is a group of teams that could be in the mix for the Milwaukee superstar!

Golden State Warriors (+600)

The Warriors could be in panic mode as they try to keep Stephen Curry’s championship window open. They traded for Jimmy Butler in February, but Antetokounmpo would be a much bigger catch.

Golden State might have to part ways with longtime stalwart Draymond Green, as they would likely want to hold on to Butler. Jonathan Kuminga would almost certainly be included in the trade, as the Warriors have been trying to move him for years. The Warriors also have 4-5 first-round picks they could throw in the deal.

The Warriors have been rumored to be in the Antetokounmpo business for years now. Is it time for them to pair Giannis with Curry?

Toronto Raptors (+1000)

The Raptors have gotten off to a solid start this season, and they could look to make a move for Antetokounmpo, who could look to stay in the East. This conference has an easier path to the NBA Finals than the West.

Toronto also has a young star to offer up in Scottie Barnes, although they would probably fight to keep him. They have salaries to match, such as R.J. Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and Jakob Poeltl. They also control most of their first-round picks over the coming years.

Barnes is the deal-breaker here. If the Raptors are willing to put him into a trade, they most likely jump the Warriors, and maybe the Rockets. If not, the package is less enticing. But their Giannis next team odds are definitely intriguing!

Atlanta Hawks (+1200)

The Hawks are a very fascinating option in the Giannis next team odds. They’ve been playing very well with Trae Young injured on the sidelines. Jalen Johnson is emerging, but he’s probably not ready to be a #1 player on a team yet. This is where Antetokounmpo comes into play.

Young would certainly be in the deal, and is up there in the Barnes-Sengun category for best players available to Milwaukee, who can then move Young for more picks. The Hawks can throw in Zaccharie Risacher as well, and a number of first-round picks.

Their success without Young may have piqued the Hawks’ interest in seeing a life without him. I’d like to see them keep Risacher, but if a player like Antetokounmpo is available, you include him.

The Sleepers

These two teams are menacing sleepers in the Giannis next team odds for the rest of the league. One team trading for Antetokounmpo is the NBA’s worst-case scenario.

Boston Celtics (+2800)

The Celtics are in a down year as Jayson Tatum recovers from his Achilles injury. This season was supposed to be about shedding salary, which they did by trading Jrue Holiday back to Portland. Al Horford and Kristaps Porziņģis also came off the books.

There are rumors about Derrick White, but could the Celtics use this for an Antetokounmpo trade? They have at least three first-round picks they control, and they could throw in Anfernee Simons to make the salaries match.

It would just be Tatum, Jaylen Brown (who the Celtics would likely say no to including), and Antetokounmpo. The bench would be in rough shape, but that’s an incredible Big Three.

Oklahoma City Thunder (+3000)

This is the scenario no one wants to see in the NBA, but you would get a terrific return to the Thunder’s Giannis next team odds. They would have to send out either Jalen Williams or Chet Holmgren, along with one of their other many good, young players.

The Thunder have up to 12 first-round picks until 2032, which is unbelievable considering they rolled to the NBA title last season and look even better this season. The only sticking point is if they would want to part with Williams or Holmgren, two homegrown stars who haven’t come close to their peak yet.

But if I were the rest of the NBA, I would be terrified of Antetokounmpo going to the Thunder!

Giannis Next Team Prediction and Betting Pick

Teams are going to do whatever they can to get Antetokounmpo, but it does matter where he wants to go, and that’s likely to a team with title aspirations. Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP who already has a championship, but at 30, he has to start looking towards the future.

Oklahoma City seems like a no-brainer, but it doesn’t seem like a move OKC general manager Sam Presti would make, given his history. They would also provide a considerable return at +3000. The Raptors would also be intriguing if they put Barnes in the offer.

But I’m going with San Antonio as my Giannis next team prediction at +125! It would be the modern-day version of Tim Duncan and David Robinson, but even better. Wembanyama isn’t as good as Duncan yet, but Antetokounmpo is much better than Robinson when he was paired up with Duncan.

The Spurs have the assets to get Giannis, and the opportunity to play with Wemby might be too good to turn down.

It’s a safe bet at these Giannis next team odds, but after seeing this team, I think the Spurs could accelerate the process and trade for “The Greek Freak”!
