The Perfect Neighbor is rightfully a massive favorite to win the Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary. Directed by Geeta Gandbhir, the film has been earning outstanding reviews from critics and audiences alike.

With a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it ranks among the highest‑rated documentaries of all time. The crime documentary explores the June 2023 murder of Ajike Owens by her neighbor, 58‑year‑old Susan Lorincz, in Ocala, Florida, and takes a deeper look at Florida’s “stand your ground” laws and the ensuing case, now featured on Netflix.

Awards have been piling up, including a big showing at the Critics Choice Documentary Awards, where The Perfect Neighbor won five honors, highlighted by Best Documentary Feature. It also secured a nomination for Best Documentary at the Academy Awards.

Given this critical and awards momentum, I expect The Perfect Neighbor to come through again this weekend. For one of my top 2026 Independent Spirit Awards picks, I suggest backing The Perfect Neighbor for Best Documentary.

While the current price isn’t appealing as a single bet, it works well as a strong addition to a parlay.

Best Feature Film Odds and Prediction

Clint Bentley’s Train Dreams enters the Independent Spirit Awards as the clear favorite for Best Feature Film, but Sorry Baby still has a puncher’s chance at an upset. Priced at -310, Train Dreams carries an implied win probability of 75.6%. It’s a strong position, but does that make it one of your smartest Independent Spirit Awards bets?

Starring Kerry Condon, Joel Edgerton, and Felicity Jones, Train Dreams has earned widespread critical acclaim. It holds a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Brian Tallerico at RogerEbert.com awarded it a perfect 4/4 score.

With its central train motif standing in for life, death, progress, and setbacks, Train Dreams has gathered significant momentum this awards season. It has already claimed Best Cinematography at the Critics’ Choice Awards and secured a spot as an AFI Movie of the Year, further strengthening its case as the frontrunner.

The way I see it, Train Dreams should have a higher price to win, so at -310 against this field, it’s one of the best Independent Spirit Awards 2026 betting picks.

Best Lead Performance Odds and Prediction

Rose Byrne has established herself as the clear frontrunner for Best Lead Performance at the 41st Independent Spirit Awards. She’s exploded on the awards circuit this year, racking up several major accolades.

Byrne won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture and followed it up with another marquee win at the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Actress. She’s also claimed multiple smaller awards for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, including honors from the Berlin International Film Festival and the Chicago Film Critics Association.

Her biggest win could still be ahead, as she’s also nominated for an Oscar at the Academy Awards. Before that, though, I expect Byrne to dominate this Independent Spirit Awards field and win comfortably, without any real challenger closing the gap.

From a betting perspective, I personally price Byrne closer to -1000 to -1200. So while -649 is a big number, I still see it as playable and a solid piece to include in your parlays. Given her awards momentum and market profile, Byrne is one of my strongest bets to win at the Independent Spirit Awards.

Best New Scripted Series Odds and Prediction

Adolescence is expected to clean up in the Best New Scripted Series at the Independent Spirit Awards this year. Philip Baratini’s British crime drama on Netflix already has a trophy case of awards heading into this weekend.

The mini-series won four Primetime Emmy Awards and the Golden Globe for Best Miniseries. With a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, there are widespread positive reviews for the hit show. It’s a thrilling drama that centers on a 13-year-old who is accused of murdering his own classmate.

I don’t want to get ahead of myself and claim that Adolescence is a lock to win this category, but it’s pretty close. In fact, I’m surprised they’re offering odds on this Independent Spirit Award.

The odds to win should be closer to -2500, so certainly consider including it as one leg of your accumulator.
