Indiana Fever (-1) vs. Atlanta Dream (-105)

The Fever (9-10) struggled in Caitlin Clark’s return from a groin injury as they were thumped 80-61 at home by Golden State on Wednesday night. Clark, who is an All-Star captain alongside Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier, had 10 points, five rebounds, and six assists in her return.

Kelsey Mitchell, whom Clark selected for her All-Star team, had 12 points to lead the Fever, who shot 30.9% from the floor. They were also outrebounded 47-36. That caused Clark and head coach Stephanie White to question the team’s effort. The highlight was a career mark in points for rookie Makalya Timpson, who added six boards.

Atlanta (12-7) beat Golden State 90-81 on their last game on Monday, outscoring the Valkyries 26-13 in the final quarter. Allisha Gray, who will play on Collier’s All-Star team, had 24 points, while Naz Himmon came off the bench with 16 points and six boards for the Dream, who are a sleeper in the WNBA title odds. The Atlanta attack is humming, ranking third in offensive rating.  They’re seventh in defensive rating, two spots behind the Fever.

The Fever are a 1-point favorite at home with odds of -105, although those odds are fluctuating between -103 and -110 at Bovada. This will be the third meeting between the two teams, as they played a back-to-back on May 20 and 22. Atlanta won the first game 91-90 at home, but the Fever avenged that loss with an 81-76 win in Atlanta.

I’m taking the Fever to bounce back with a big game at home tonight, especially since there seemed to be an effort issue against Golden State. There are many things you can’t control on the basketball court, but you can control your effort. They put up a dud at home on Wednesday, but the Fever will be locked in tonight, so let’s take Indiana to cover the 1-point spread at -105!

The Bet
Indiana Fever -1
