The 2025 New York Marathon is the final World Marathon major of the year, and picking my predictions for both races was tough. The defending champions are back to try to keep their crowns, but will the contenders catch up to them?
The odds for the New York Marathon will likely be available at Bovada. The bookmaker has offered New York Marathon betting odds on both the men’s and women’s races in the past a day or two before the event.
I will keep my eyes open and update this post, once the odds for 2025 are available.
New York Marathon 2025 Route
The New York Marathon route takes runners throughout all five boroughs in the Big Apple, starting in Staten Island near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Runners will then head through Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan, then the Bronx, and back to Central Park in Manhattan, where the finish line awaits!
The New York Marathon features more elevation changes than most marathons, for example, the relatively flat Chicago Marathon. It starts around 100 feet above sea level and has a minimum elevation of seven feet, and rises to a maximum of 260 feet.
2025 New York Marathon Betting Favorites
Let’s kick things off by looking at the favorites in the men’s division at the New York Marathon.
Men’s Favorites
Abdi Nageeye
The Somali-Dutch marathoner holds a slew of records in his country, but he finally broke through in the Big Apple last year! After finishing in the top five in three straight years, Nageeye won the New York Marathon in 2024 with a time of 2:07:39!
The 36-year-old also won the silver medal in the marathon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, so he is well accomplished. He knows the terrain in New York as well as anyone and will be full of confidence after last year’s victory.
Nageeye will certainly be one of the top favorites in the 2025 New York Marathon odds!
Eliud Kipochoge
Kipochoge may be the best male marathoner of all time! He won gold at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and has won a staggering 11 World Marathon Majors. Kipchoge has won five times in Berlin, four times in London, and once each in Tokyo and Chicago. His last WMM win came in Berlin in 2023.
However, the 40-year-old is making his debut in New York, so he has never run the course in an official marathon. That could put him disadvantaged. But his pedigree alone is enough to make Kipchoge a legitimate New York Marathon prediction!
Albert Korir (Kenya)
Korir won this race in 2021, and finished second in 2019 and 2023, so he knows his way around the streets of New York. He also won a marathon in Ottawa, Ontario, in 2025.
At 31, Korir should still have the legs to compete in this race. The Kenyan should be near the front of the pack as the race progresses, and will need a strong closing kick to win in NYC for the third time.
Women’s Favorites
Now, we’ll survey the women’s 2025 New York Marathon favorites for this weekend’s race.
Sheila Chepkirui
Chepkirui won here in 2024 with a time of 2:24:35 for her first WMM victory. She’ll have stiff competition to deal with, but the Kenyan already knows how to deal with that.
The 34-year-old will aim to go back-to-back in New York, which hasn’t been done by another woman since countrywoman Mary Keitany won three straight from 2014 to 2016. Chepkirui had a great run in 2024, but she might need one even better to repeat in 2025!
Sharon Lokedi
Lokedi has won two WMM races, in 2022 in New York and earlier this year in Boston. She also finished third at the 2023 New York Marathon. In Boston, she set the course record at 2:17.22.
The 34-year-old Kenyan finished ninth here last year, and would like to avenge that effort. She’ll have to do a better job of navigating the course, but Lokedi has the experience to do it. Keep an eye on her when the 2025 New York Marathon betting odds are out!
Hellen Obiri
Lokedi will try to keep close to her rival, Obiri. The two have already gone head-to-head this year, with Obiri losing to Lokedi by 19 seconds in Boston. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Obiri beat Lokedi to the bronze medal by four seconds!
The 35-year-old Kenyan won here in 2023, while also winning in Boston in 2023 and 2024. Obiri also finished second to Chepkirui here last year, so she has plenty of motivation. However, she can’t solely focus on her rivalry with Lokedi, as Chepkirui proved in 2024!
New York Marathon Weather Predictions for 2025
The weather for the New York Marathon on Sunday, November 2 will start off chilly in the morning when the women start at 8:35 AM ET. The men start at 9:05 AM ET.
The top runners won’t get to feel the high of 52 degrees in the afternoon. But it’ll slowly warm up throughout the morning as they get going.

2025 New York Marathon Betting Predictions
On the men’s side, my New York Marathon prediction is Albert Korir! He’s a bit younger than his main competitors, and he knows the course extremely well, so the Kenyan is my pick here.
For the women, I’m going to take Sharon Lokedi for the Kenyan sweep! I picked her last year, and I’m rolling with her again. It should be a fun race down the stretch, but I’m banking on Lokedi to finish 2025 with her second WMM win of the year!
