What Is a Sports Equinox and When Is It in 2025?

As the clock ticks down to the next Sports Equinox, anticipation is building on one of the biggest betting days on the calendar! So, what is a Sports Equinox, and how can you cash in on the rare anomaly?

I explore everything that you need to know about the Sports Equinox 2025, including when it is, and the best bets on the board for this special day.

What Is a Sports Equinox?

A Sports Equinox is when all four major sports in the United States have games scheduled on the same day. The NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB all have regular season or postseason matchups being played on a Sports Equinox day.

Based on current scheduling for all four leagues, this is only possible in October or if the World Series ends in early November.

When Is the Next Sports Equinox?

The 2025 Sports Equinox is set for Monday, October 27, 2025. All four major leagues will be in action, including Monday Night Football and the World Series.

This is the 32nd Sports Equinox in recorded history. The most recent Sports Equinox occurred on October 28, 2024. In an atypical year, there can be multiple in the same year. For instance, in 2022, there were three Equinoxes in a single year, which happened on October 20, October 23, and October 31.

If you are interested in betting on the Sports Equinox at the best online sportsbooks, I will have a pick for each sport below (MLB, NHL, and NBA to be added on Monday, when the odds are up):

Washington Commanders vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Chiefs -12 (-111)

The Commanders head on the road to Kansas City to try and cool off the red-hot Chiefs at Arrowhead. After a couple of hiccups to open the season, the Chiefs are playing confident football and look like themselves now.

They are coming off a 31-0 blowout over the Las Vegas Raiders after dispatching the Detroit Lions by double digits, 30-17. Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes is playing with mega confidence and is the new favorite to win NFL MVP.

Look for the Chiefs to exploit a Commanders’ defense that has struggled against the pass this season. The commanders rank 25th in the NFL, yielding an average of 238.3 yards per game. Mahomes should have a strong game, while the Commanders’ offense is likely to face issues with backup QB Marcus Mariota under center.

Jayden Daniels has been ruled out of the game, so Mariota gets the call versus a tough Kansas City defense. The Chiefs have allowed just 174.6 passing yards per game and should pick on Mariota in this one. Lay the points on your MNF betting ticket on Sports Equinox day this Monday!

The Bet
KC Chiefs -12
-111

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Dodgers: Dodgers -1.5 (EVEN)

The World Series shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Monday night. Max Scherzer gets the call for the Blue Jays, and I expect this to be a rough start on the road.

Scherzer was shaky on the road, with a 5.91 ERA across 35 innings on the road in 2025. Overall, Scherzer didn’t have a great season, posting a 5.13 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. In his lone postseason appearance, he was sharp against the Mariners in a critical start in the ALCS.

However, Scherzer has allowed four or more earned runs in five of his last seven starts. Additionally, the Dodgers have hit seven home runs and 14 RBIs versus Scherzer in 172 at-bats.

I have more faith in Dodgers’ starter Tyler Glasnow, who has a lights-out 0.68 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through three starts this postseason. He was at his best at home this season, with a 2.77 ERA and .172 OBA in 61.2 innings. Additionally, Glasnow has held the Blue Jays to a .210 batting average in 100 career at-bats.

The Dodgers are the play on the runline for the 2025 Sports Equinox!

The Bet
LA Dodgers -1.5
+100

Toronto Raptors vs. San Antonio Spurs: San Antonio Spurs -4.5 (-110)

The Toronto Raptors face a brutal mismatch against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night. Following a 139-123 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, it’s unlikely to get better in Texas against the Spurs.

The Raptors have had a recurring hole at center over the last few years, and it doesn’t appear to be getting better this season. Jakob Poetl has been a turnstile defensively, which doesn’t bode well versus Victory Wembanyama.

Look for Wembanyama to put up a monster stat line in a favorable matchup tonight. I don’t know if the Raptors are going to have an answer on either side of the floor. The mismatch is too lopsided, and Poetl should be in foul trouble early against “Wemby”.

With 126.3 points allowed per game, the Raptors are tied for 26th in the NBA. Conversely, the Spurs are second, allowing an average of 105 points per game in 2025. Lay the points on the Spurs at home!

The Bet
Spurs -4.5
-110

Boston Bruins vs. Ottawa Senators: Over 5.5 (-120)

The Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators have value on the over 5.5 goals at Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata. Neither defense has been impressive, and it’s likely the total eclipses six games on Monday night.

Bruins’ goaltender Jeremy Swayman has gotten off to a mediocre start between the pipes. He owns a 2.85 GAA in six games for the Bruins. Overall, the Bruins are 24th in the NHL, with 3.5 goals allowed per game.

I trust the Bruins’ defense more than the Senators, who haven’t been working hard on the backcheck and in the defensive zone. They rank 30th in goals against, yielding an average of 3.89 per game. Linus Ullmark is trying to get on track, as he boasts a 3.11 GAA and 0.87 save percentage in eight starts.

The goal scoring department has been fine, though. The Bruins have scored an average of 3.2 goals per game, while the Senators have netted 3.3 per matchup this season. With the total at 5.5 goals, the over is the best pick here.

The Bet
Over 5.5
-110
